Key to a successful outcome would be overcoming the difficult time constraints involved. With a strict 10 day window to undertake all of the works whilst the ward was decanted, it was essential that we completed on time and to the exacting quality standards required to enable the critical care to recommence in the ward on 5th August.

 

The works were undertaken using day and night shifts over the 10 days period and included both building fabric and M&E upgrade works. Flooring to all clinical spaces were replaced with new hygienic vinyl and all walls and ceilings made good and redecorated. The existing suspended ceilings were refurbished with replacement tiles and extensive cleaning. Existing clinical wash hand basins were replaced with proprietary HTM compliant IPS units and extensive new hot water service pipework was run for future connection of to serve all outlets in the ward. Additional minor works were undertaken in offices to improve privacy and working spaces. 

 

We also took the opportunity whilst the ward was vacant to complete other works from our main Fire Remediation contract, to avoid any future disruption to service provision. This involved the replacement of fire doors sets to meet current regulations, improvements to fire stopping on compartment lines, and installation of additional emergency lighting to enhance the existing provision. A full distribution board swap was also undertaken by the Trust during our possession to improve the condition of electrical services in the area.

 

All works were undertaken whilst maintaining access throughout to various department staff to the offices and store areas in the ward. The completed works were handed over to a very satisfied Ward Lead on 5th August, with critical healthcare provision recommencing in the ward the same day as intended. People who depend on this critical infrastructure, depend on us, and we understand this responsibility. A huge thank you to the team who excelled yet again.
