Veolia were required to construct an MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) plant located on the periphery of Heathrow Airport, as part of a scheme to upgrade the pollution control system on the eastern balancing reservoir.
The overall scheme involved significant investment by the airport utilities Facilities Management team which included the provision of two new glass fused steel MBBR tanks, each 15m in diameter, to replace failing tanks and process plant on the existing site.
As the nominated MIECA contractor, Hanevo were appointed to work in conjunction with Veolia who were Principal Contractor for the project.
Works were accessed via a 800mm hatch through the side of the open topped tank.
Works included:
Assembly and Installation of 1600 stainless steel aeration diffuser heads inside two 15m diameter glass fused steel MBBR aeration tanks
Installation of all PVC amd stainless stell pipework between aeration heads and blowers
Fabrication and installation of new stainless steel support steelwork
Leak and pattern testing on the installed grids for each tank.
Hanevo developed the commissioning plan in accordance with the detailed design specification and then carried out testing & commissioning, to ensure exemplar project delivery. As part of this project Hanevo were able to carry out training of our installation and management team with Sanitaire, ahead of commencement, which has enabled us to become an approved installation partner for Sanitaire.
