Chertsey STW Operational Resilience

Client: Thames Water
Location: Chertsey

Following a process risk review carried out by Thames Water, it was highlighted that there was insufficient process resilience on site in the event of any type of failure of to one of the existing belt presses. This had the potential to be further enhanced by the need to increase through put due to the population growth in the area.

To guarantee process safety and maximise throughput, an additional belt press was installed in parallel with the existing pair of presses.
Hanevo was appointed carry out some elements of design, which included product selection and pipework to achieve the performance criteria followed by the mechanical and electrical installation.

Works included:

Design, installation and commission stainless steel pipework, to feed the new belt press,
Design, installation and commissioning of liquors return and discharger pipework Modification of existing sludge storage silo discharge including replacement of exiting valves within a confined space environment
Installation of a new belt press
Integration of existing wash water, poly dosing, sludge rewetting, odour control and filtration equipment.
Installation of new MMC and kiosk, field wiring and containment

Hanevo developed the commissioning plan in accordance with the detailed design specification and then carried out testing & commissioning, without disruption to the existing process and within all consents.
